Not long after Brandon Aubrey arrives at Empower Field at Mile High in Denver on Sunday for the first time in his career, the Dallas Cowboys kicker will walk around the stadium, feeling the grass beneath his feet and finding his aiming points behind the goal posts. A little later, he will go through his routine of kicks from varying distances, topping out at 58 yards.
The Dallas Cowboys came away with the win over the Washington Commanders and that is what matters more than anything. It feels like anything is possible when the team plays the way that they did on Sunday afternoon. Something significant happened during the win that you may have missed. At one point in the first half, Brandon Aubrey kicked a 61-yard field goal. Because of course he did.
There weren't many high-scoring games in Week 1 of the 2025 NFL season, but teams certainly made up for it in Week 2. Nearly every game in the early slate on Sunday scored 40 or more points, which was good news for fantasy football players and general fans. With all of this scoring, there were a few games that came down to the wire, including the back-and-forth battle between the New York Giants and Dallas Cowboys.
When Fox analyst Greg Olsen noted that this week's version of Russell Wilson was unrecognizable from Week 1, he could have referred to the entire New York Giants team. Limping into Dallas after their dismal opening loss to the Commanders, the Giants picked up where they left off with a lot of stupid mistakes. Offensive tackle James Hudson III stole the limelight as he somehow amassed four consecutive penalties on New York's first possession.
Well, the New York Giants are certainly more entertaining than they were last season, but that hasn't translated into a win, yet. Following a dizzying fourth quarter and four straight failed drives in overtime, a Russell Wilson interception gifted the Dallas Cowboys one more possession late in the extra frame, ultimately setting up Brandon Aubrey's 46-yard game-winning field goal to lift Big Blue's NFC East rival to a 40-37 victory on Sunday afternoon at AT&T Stadium.
