Ontario Premier Doug Ford says he is looking at the issue of ticket sales, after Blue Jays fans complained of sky-high resale prices not long after World Series tickets went on sale. Game 1 comes to Toronto on Friday and home game tickets quickly sold out Wednesday, with resale tickets being priced at many thousands of dollars. Ford says that in his opinion, Ticketmaster is "gouging" people.
Ontario's Progressive Conservatives outspent their opponents during last winter's provincial election by more than $6 million, but one of their nearest rivals says the governing party had a massive head start because of its use of taxpayer-funded advertising months ahead of the snap vote. The election spending figures come from mandatory filings more than six months after the writ period. Premier Doug Ford called the winter election seeking a new mandate to address U.S. President Donald Trump's tariff threats and cruised to a third-straight majority government in February.
"Carney recently named the first five projects in the national interest that will be fast-tracked, which is intended to strengthen the country's economy, particularly in the face of U.S. tariffs. One Ontario project was on the initial list building small modular nuclear reactors and Ford said Tuesday that accessing the province's critical mineral-rich Ring of Fire region will be in the next set of projects. It received a nod in Carney's announcement, along with energy, high-speed rail and port projects, suggesting the federal government will indeed work with provinces to bring those to fruition down the line."
"The upward trend for cycling continues in our city, as it does elsewhere when bike lanes are in place. What's especially impressive is that during the 5-7 p.m. rush hours, there were more bikes than cars, even though only a fraction of the roadway is actually set aside for cyclists."
Ontario Premier Doug Ford announced plans to designate the mineral-rich Ring of Fire as a special economic zone, aiming for swift development and consultation with First Nations.
Jamie Kneen, national program co-lead for MiningWatch Canada, argues it’s undemocratic for the province to exempt mines from oversight, questioning the legitimacy of using tariffs as justification.
Ford emphasized the need for rapid progress on infrastructure projects amid challenges like U.S. tariffs, stating, 'We just want to get projects moving forward as quickly as possible.' He advocated for reducing lengthy environmental assessments and emphasized the importance of constructing essential facilities like 'roads and highways and hospitals and schools and bridges.'
