The spidonut first appeared innocently enough, as part of a rather generic Halloween menu rolloutlast October. "No tricks, just treats" the brand posted with a series of ghost emojis, promoting its spider confection on Instagram alongside a purple trick-or-treat tub of munchkins. (Honestly, it was meh at best.) The spider doughnut wasn't even new - since 2017 Dunkin's Halloween lineup has included a similar treat with an orange coat of frosting. But apparently the new purple hue unleashed some evil inside that munchkin center.
Matcha is a Japanese green tea powder that has become a global sensation. What was typically seen in Japanese tea ceremonies can now be found all over social media feeds, whether as a flavoring in desserts or as part of the drinks and coffee menus around the world. Once a luxurious commodity, matcha has been enjoyed for thousands of years.
"This is literally the only reason I go to Starbucks over Dunkin. The cold foam," wrote one Redditor, proving that the whipped topping is the deciding factor for some customers. Starbucks' cold foam - added to everything from iced coffee and matcha to frappuccinos - also has the advantage over Dunkin's because it's made to order and can be customized with different flavors and milk alternatives. Unlike Dunkin', Starbucks also offers a non-dairy cold foam that makes the topping more adaptable to different diets.
There are a lot of fall spices you can add to coffee to give it a seasonal kick, such as cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice, ground cloves, and ginger. And you can even find inspiration from fall-flavored treats if you don't want pumpkin-spiced. Notes of apple, maple, caramel, butter pecan, and others could be delicious options. So, I picked out some secret menu selections as well as some other customizable options to add to your drink rotation this chilly season.
As our taste-tester mentioned, even though milk-and-berries are a seemingly foolproof combo, something about Dunkin's execution of the pairing was a turn-off: "I wasn't able to identify any actual berries in the drink. Instead, the flavor was more like what someone would guess berries taste like if they had only ever seen photos of them [...] On top of the chemical-like taste, it also had a medicinal quality, like fruit-flavored cough medicine we were given as kids."
Dunkin' is launching a new summer Refresher flavor called Pink Spritz, a fizzy blend of guava, orange, and passionfruit, in response to customer demand.
Dunkin' embraces celebrity collaborations for unique beverage creations, such as Sabrina Carpenter's Brown Sugar Shakin' Espresso and Ice Spice's Munchkin Drink, keeping their offerings relevant to pop culture.
