Metropolitan Museum and watchmaker Vacheron Constantin launch artist residency
Briefly

The Metropolitan Museum of Art has launched an 18-month residency program in collaboration with Vacheron Constantin aimed at artists incorporating craft in their work. Inaugural artists include Aspen Golann, Ibrahim Said, and Joy Harvey, each bringing unique perspectives to their crafts. The program emphasizes innovation in traditional practices. This initiative aims for cultural dialogue and artistic innovation, culminating in a showcase at the Met in October 2026. Max Hollein, the Met's director, praised the selected artists for elevating traditional techniques.
This initiative embodies our mutual commitment to artistic innovation and cultural dialogue, and the selected artists are remarkably skilled practitioners who breathe new life into traditional techniques.
Golann employs historical US furniture-making practices to foreground issues related to labour, gender and power, incorporating drawings, functional objects and furniture into her art.
Ibrahim Said reinterpret ancient Egyptian ceramic forms and techniques with a contemporary sensibility, drawing from his family's long tradition of ceramic artistry.
Harvey pivoted from a chemist career to jewelry-making, focusing on sustainably sourced materials through her studio, La Luce, co-founded in 2021.
