The Braves recalled right-handed pitcher Nathan Wiles from Triple-A Gwinnett and optioned Didier Fuentes after poor performance over three starts. Fuentes, despite his talent and potential, struggled with a high earned run average and was not yet prepared for the demands on the major league level. Nathan Wiles is expected to fill a relief role rather than starting. The team hopes Bryce Elder can pull off a favorable performance in an upcoming game, reducing the necessity for Wiles in a more significant role.
Didier Fuentes, the young phenom who isn't old enough to legally drink but deserves a beer, has been optioned to Triple-A Gwinnett.
He has thrown 13 innings in three starts with a 13.85/9.05/5.59 line for an injury-plagued Braves rotation without a ton of options.
Replacing him will be Nathan Wiles from Gwinnett. I think he's here not to start, but to be the mop-up guy.
Let's hope Bryce Elder can recapture the San Francisco start tonight in Sacramento against a team from Oakland.
