"BOROUGHWIDE - MAJOR CRIME ROSE in North Brooklyn sharply in mid-January, with 291 major felonies reported during the week of Jan. 12-18, up 26.5% from the same period last year, according to NYPD CompStat data. In South Brooklyn, major crime ticked up modestly in January, with 229 major felonies reported during the week of Jan. 12 - 18, a 5% increase from the same period last year The increases were largely driven by robbery, larceny and assault events."
"In North Brooklyn, shooting incidents and victims were unchanged from the prior year, reinforcing a broader trend of gun violence remaining relatively contained. In South Brooklyn, shooting incidents and victims both declined 100% week over week, and no murders were reported during the week, keeping South Brooklyn at zero homicides year to date. 2025 was the safest year for crime in Brooklyn's history. Compared to 2025, crime did increase in January 2026, although the numbers still paint a safe picture of the borough."
