Hopefully I am wrong. I will probably get criticized for jumping to conclusions. ... I don't think that is a coincidence, but we will see."

On June 25, 2024, the US Surgeon General issued an advisory declaring gun violence a public health crisis. To address the issue, he highlighted public health approaches like research, community violence prevention, and safe storage education. His suggested remedies are just that: suggested. All would require legislation passed by Congress to implement nationwide. According to 2022 Center for Disease Control data, there is an average of 53 gun homicides per day. On a local level, preventative measures can be implemented immediately.
OAKLAND A 67-year-old man fatally shot outside his West Oakland home last week was an innocent victim hit by a stray bullet fired during a gun battle between the occupants of moving vehicles, police said. Tony Jerome Norman was shot about 5 p.m. Aug. 27 after walking home from BART to his residence in the 700 block of 17th Street after completing his shift as a security guard at a San Francisco Kaiser Permanente hospital.
A 12-year-old boy from Toronto has been charged with attempted murder after a man was shot in Markham last month, York Regional Police said. Officers found a man suffering from gunshot wounds when they responded to reports of a shooting near McCowan Road and 14th Avenue on Aug. 14, police said in a news release Wednesday. The victim was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Around 7 a.m. Sunday, 911 dispatchers received a call from someone concerned about a family member at an apartment complex on the 4800 block of El Camino Ave. When Sacramento County Sheriff's Office deputies arrived at the unit, they found bullet holes in the front of the residence. Inside, they discovered three deceased individuals, all dead from gunshot wounds. Details are scant.

Yesterday, a coward decided to take our 8-year-old son Fletcher away from us. Because of their actions, we will never be allowed to hold him, talk to him, play with him, and watch him grow into the wonderful young man he was on the path to becoming. Fletcher loved his family, friends, fishing, and any sport that he was allowed to play.
