Flags will remain at half-staff throughout Massachusetts and across the U.S. this weekend in memory of conservative political activist Charlie Kirk. Gov. Maura Healey has ordered that American flags and Massachusetts flags at all state buildings be lowered to half-staff until sunset on Sept. 14, in accordance with a proclamation from President Donald Trump. The order applies to town and city halls, state-owned or state-controlled buildings, and state military installations.

A teenager was shot in the legs while riding in a car on the Hutchinson River Parkway in the Bronx early on Sunday morning, police reported. Law enforcement sources said the shooting happened on the northbound lanes in Pelham Bay at about 6:51 a.m. on Aug. 31. Police found the victim, an 18-year-old man, with multiple gunshot wounds to his legs. He was brought to Jacobi Hospital for treatment and listed in stable condition, police sources said.
The 15-year-old shooter of Colombian presidential candidate Miguel Uribe, who was attacked in June and died in August, has been sentenced to seven years in juvenile detention. The right-wing politician was shot in the head during a campaign event in Bogota by the teenager, who must remain in a specialised care centre for seven years, deprived of liberty, prosecutors said in a statement on Wednesday.
