Oakland man charged with three counts of murder over shootout inside liquor store
"Prosecutors have filed murder charges against a man who allegedly killed two brothers, and they're blaming him for the death of a man who was hit by a stray bullet, according to court records. Darrell Genesis Tatmon, 40, of Oakland, was charged with three counts of murder for allegedly killing brothers Luis Antonio Valdez-Gomez and Kevin Andrew Valdez-Gomez and a bystander, Miguel Angel Ramirez."
"Authorities say the shooting happened around 3 a.m. on Jan. 3, inside the Sky Market on 85th Avenue and International Boulevard in Oakland. The brothers were allegedly asked to buy marijuana from a man with Tatmon, leading to a confrontation where Tatmon allegedly taunted them as milenials, police say. Prosecutors allege that Tatmon started the deadly confrontation by pulling a gun, and that Kevin Valdez-Gomez fired shots possibly the shots that killed Ramirez in self defense."

The shooting occurred about 3 a.m. on Jan. 3 inside the Sky Market on 85th Avenue and International Boulevard. Prosecutors say the brothers were asked to buy marijuana for a man with Tatmon, prompting a confrontation during which Tatmon allegedly taunted them as milenials and pulled a gun. Authorities allege Kevin Valdez-Gomez fired shots, possibly striking Ramirez in self-defense, before other men disarmed the brothers and Tatmon allegedly shot both brothers, including firing into Kevin's chest as he lay on the ground. A second suspect, Angelo Pharr, faces assault and gun-possession counts for joining the fight. Oakland police investigated eight homicides in January 2026, and 2025 recorded 66 deaths, 56 classified as murders—the lowest total since 1967.
