"What we would want is a good closure, a closure that our dear family member is given a befitting burial. A burial that we think is shocking to us. We're still in disbelief,"
"Right now that Belinda is no more, [I] believe [my] life has virtually also ended,"
"There's nothing at all in this world that can give [me] closure, [my] daughter meant everything to [me]."
"For somebody that went about her normal errands for a day and couldn't come home and died, she shouldn't have been the cost [of gun violence],"
Family, friends and Ghanaian community members gathered in Etobicoke to remember Belinda Sarkodie, who was shot and killed on July 11 while waiting at a downtown Hamilton bus stop. Family from Manitoba and Ghana traveled to Ontario for her burial. Relatives described Sarkodie as an excellent student, a believer in God and a friend to everyone. Her family called on all levels of government to take action to eradicate gun violence and prevent innocent people from being harmed. Sarkodie's mother said she mourns daily and that her life has virtually ended. The Ghanaian community expressed shock and a sense of insecurity.
