Chase Meidroth was placed on the injured list for at least ten days because of a right thumb contusion sustained after being hit by a pitch. X-rays revealed no fractures, but he could not play in five subsequent games. Previously, he dealt with thumb inflammation early in the season. In his absence, rookie Colson Montgomery will start at shortstop, continuing his impressive form. Jake Amaya has been called up from Triple-A Charlotte to fill the roster gap. The White Sox also designated pitcher Gus Varland for assignment.
