Casa em Pedrantil, designed by Helder da Rocha Arquitectos, is a unique home nestled within the gentle hills of northern Portugal. Initially conceived to cut through the hill for a grand view, budget constraints led to a more restrained approach. Instead of removing landforms, the design incorporates independent volumes responding to the terrain's contours. These structures, rendered in pale insulation with exposed concrete accents, create a dialogue with the landscape, emphasizing a journey of gradual discovery as one moves through the space.
The journey through Casa em Pedrantil is designed with a particular cadence. First the hill, then the pathway, and then the slow appearance of built forms.
The structure's arrangement is loose, without formal symmetry, but carefully considered, bringing variation inside and out as it integrates with the surrounding landscape.
