Antioch to welcome first downtown farmers market later this month
Briefly

The Antioch Farmers' Market will launch on June 22, offering residents a chance to access fresh and healthy food options every Sunday until October. Located in the Rivertown district, the opening day will feature a ribbon-cutting ceremony. Board president Joy Motts highlighted the market's importance, noting the community's struggle with food deserts due to the departure of grocery stores. The market will feature over 25 local farmers and vendors and is a partnership between the city and local organizations, with hopes of extending the market throughout the year if successful.
Joy Motts emphasized the market's significance, stating, 'having the opportunity for healthy produce, meats, fish, and flowers is something we've dreamed about...Many of us travel to Brentwood or Walnut Creek for fresh produce.'
The Antioch Farmers' Market will occur every Sunday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Rivertown district, addressing the community's need for accessible fresh food.
According to the California Farmers' Markets Association, there will be over 25 local farmers and vendors, enhancing access to farm-fresh products in the community.
The market is a collaborative effort between the city, Celebrate Antioch Foundation, and California Farmers' Markets Association, aiming to combat local food scarcity.
