Green infrastructure coming to Staten Island Zoo lot: What visitors should know
Briefly

A $1.9 million green infrastructure project will begin at the Staten Island Zoo parking lot in November. The initiative will capture stormwater and improve resiliency against extreme weather. Underneath the pavement, stone storage tanks will be installed, while the lower parking lot will be replaced with permeable pavement. The lower section of the lot will be closed during construction, but the upper section will remain largely open. Additionally, granite block pavement will be substituted with a native seed mix of perennials and grasses, improving the environment. The project is expected to last around a year.
A $1.9 million green infrastructure project will close part of the Staten Island Zoo's parking lot starting in November, aimed at increasing stormwater resiliency against extreme weather.
