Seattle filmmaker Andrea Hale used collage, looping and repetition to render figures and bodies into dream-like shapes, collaborating with composer Greg Hardgrave. Video artists anticipate new public-domain releases each January as fresh creative source material. The Internet Archive digitizes vast repositories, including films and other materials long stored in film canisters, and makes them publicly accessible. This year’s contest received nearly 280 entries, the highest since its launch six years ago, featuring works from reworked 1930 films to AI-generated takes on vintage books.
