Autumn Durald Arkapaw won the Oscar for best cinematography for "Sinners," becoming the first woman to achieve this honor and the first woman of color ever nominated in the category. Only three women have been nominated in this category throughout Academy Awards history. During her acceptance speech, Arkapaw praised director Ryan Coogler for his belief and trust in her work, describing their meeting as destined. She emphasized the importance of women's support throughout her career, asking all women in the audience to stand and acknowledging the love and encouragement she received from women involved in the campaign. "Sinners" also set an Oscars record with 16 total nominations at the 98th Academy Awards.
