Meta is set to unveil impressive research prototypes of consumer VR headsets at the SIGGRAPH 2025 conference. The Tiramisu headset features high contrast, high angular resolution, and exceptional brightness, although it is bulkier with limited FOV. The Boba 3 headsets offer a wide FOV close to that of human vision and higher display resolution than their predecessors. The prototypes may not reach consumers, as they are experimental, but they demonstrate significant advancements in virtual reality technology.
The Tiramisu headset boasts a high contrast of roughly 3x that of Meta Quest 3, with angular resolution of 90 pixels per degree and brightness up to 1,400 nits.
The Boba 3 headsets feature a remarkable horizontal FOV of 180 degrees and vertical FOV of 120 degrees, approaching the human visual system's roughly 200-degree FOV.
Boba 3 prototypes have a display resolution per eye of 4K by 4K, surpassing last year's Boba 2's 3K by 3K resolution per eye.
Although the prototype headsets are purely research and may not reach consumers, they showcase Meta's advancements towards realistic VR experiences.
