Earl Morin-Briton was convicted of the murder of Theo Porteous, who was stabbed three times in a daylight attack while sitting in his car. The incident occurred in Nine Elms on August 24, 2023, when Morin-Briton approached Porteous's car and lured him out. After the unprovoked assault, emergency services arrived but were unable to save him. Lead investigator Detective Chief Inspector Wayne Jolley described the attack as senseless. Morin-Briton received a life sentence with a minimum of 27 years, representing a firm response to violent crime. The victim was commemorated by his former football club with tributes during matches.
Morin-Briton murdered Theo in an unprovoked and senseless attack in broad daylight. Theo was sitting in his car when Morin-Briton approached him.
To pay tribute to Theo, today all teams, both home and away, will wear black armbands and observe a minute's applause before their matches.
Nothing will ever bring Theo back to them but I do hope this outcome will give them some sense of closure.
Morin-Briton was arrested on September 1, 2023, at an address in Norwood and charged the following day.
