During these protests, hundreds were arrested for various charges. President Trump authorized the deployment of National Guard troops and U.S. Marines to the area amidst controversy, with California Governor Gavin Newsom opposing this action. Additionally, numerous misleading social media posts circulated, including unrelated videos misrepresented as part of the protests. A curfew was instated in downtown LA for public safety.
Amid legitimate images showing people in Los Angeles waving Mexican flags, vandalizing self-driving cars and pelting rocks at California Highway Patrol vehicles, other videos populating social media news feeds are not what they claim to be.
Protests broke out across Los Angeles on June 6, after ICE agents raided workplaces and confronted day laborers, arresting 44 people who allegedly violated immigration law.
