Los Angeles restaurants are struggling amidst ongoing immigration raids and the disruptions caused by curfews during anti-ICE protests. Mayor Karen Bass lifted a curfew that affected many restaurants, forcing them to alter their operating hours or close entirely. Restaurant owners expressed frustration with the uncertainty and late notifications regarding the curfew. Akarad "AK" Tachavatcharapa from Hatch DTLA emphasized the difficulties faced during this period, while Emil Eyvazoff from 71 Above acknowledged some improvements but noted the continuing challenges for neighborhoods and local businesses.
"Last week was rough and annoying to say the least," says Akarad "AK" Tachavatcharapa, the owner of Hatch DTLA. He indicates the uncertainty brought on by the curfew hindered business and compared the experience to the initial days of COVID-19. His restaurant lost its typical Father's Day weekend revenue due to the late notifications of curfew changes, showcasing the significant impact on local establishments."
Owner Emil Eyvazoff of 71 Above acknowledges the curfew change to 10 p.m. as a positive development, but nonetheless, expressing concern, he suggests that the surrounding neighborhood had still been adversely affected, illustrating the cloud of uncertainty looming over local businesses during such challenging times.
