The website for California's health insurance marketplace, Covered California, was found to be transmitting sensitive user data to LinkedIn, including personal health information such as pregnancy status and disability. Following this revelation by The Markup, Covered California removed the trackers and stated they were part of a marketing strategy that had begun in February 2024. In response, the organization has initiated a review of its data privacy protocols to prevent unauthorized data sharing, and all advertising-related tags have been disabled out of caution.
Covered California has initiated a review of our websites and information security and privacy protocols to ensure that no analytics tools are impermissibly sharing sensitive consumer information.
