FCC chair threatens to throttle news broadcasts over hoaxes' about Iran war
"Broadcasters must operate in the public interest, and they will lose their licenses if they do not. The FCC has control of the electromagnetic spectrum, colloquially termed the airwaves, including commercial and non-commercial fixed and mobile wireless services, broadcast television and radio, satellite and other services under the Communications Act of 1934."
"Yet again, an intentionally misleading headline by the Fake News Media about the five tanker planes that were supposedly struck down at an Airport in Saudi Arabia, and of no further use. They are truly sick and demented people that have no idea the damage they cause the United States of America."
FCC Chair Brendan Carr issued a warning to broadcasters, threatening license cancellations for outlets he characterizes as spreading fake news and distortions. Carr stated that broadcasters must operate in the public interest or face license revocation during renewal periods. The FCC controls the electromagnetic spectrum under the Communications Act of 1934. Carr's threat follows sustained complaints from Trump and administration officials regarding media coverage they deem unflattering, particularly regarding Iran conflict reporting. Trump specifically criticized the New York Times and Wall Street Journal for what he called misleading headlines about tanker planes in Saudi Arabia, claiming outlets want the U.S. to lose the war. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth also criticized media coverage of the conflict.
