The New York Times and The Washington Post won three Pulitzer Prizes each for their work in 2023, covering topics such as the war in Gaza and gun violence. The Associated Press also received an award in the feature photography category for their coverage of global migration to the U.S.
ProPublica was awarded the prestigious public service Pulitzer Prize for exposing the influence of billionaires on the U.S. Supreme Court through expensive gifts and luxury travels. The investigative reporting by Joshua Kaplan, Justin Elliott, Brett Murphy, Alex Mierjeski, and Kirsten Berg stood out.
The Pulitzer Prizes recognized 15 categories in journalism and eight in arts. The public service winner is awarded a gold medal, while other winners receive $15,000. AP's winning entry in feature photography documented migrants' journeys across Latin America and the U.S.-Mexico border.
"These raw and emotional images came about through day-to-day coverage of a historic moment in multiple countries documenting migrants at every step of their treacherous journeys," said Julie Pace, the AP's senior vice president.
