Las Vegas police release body cam from run-ins with accused NYC shooter
Briefly

Shane Devon Tamura, who shot five people before taking his own life, had multiple interactions with police in Las Vegas over recent years due to mental health crises. He was subjected to two mental health interventions in 2022 and 2024, with a police report indicating suicidal feelings. Tamura's mother expressed concerns about his mental state, indicating he was under a doctor's care for several issues. A suicide note found on Tamura mentioned his desire for his brain to be studied for CTE, reflecting his high school football background.
In September 2022, LVMPD records show a police officer filled out an application for "emergency admission of a person in a mental health crisis to a mental health facility or hospital" on behalf of Tamura.
Authorities said Tamura had a suicide note in his pocket during last week's shooting. In the note, authorities said he requested his brain be studied for CTE - a brain disease affecting many NFL football players who have suffered head injuries.
