Two years in, Swedish union has no plans to stop Tesla strike
""That is what we demanded two years ago and that is what we are demanding today,""
""As long as we have members who are willing to fight for collective agreements, we are able to strike,""
""reached the end of the road""
Mechanics at 10 Tesla repair shops in seven Swedish cities walked off the job on October 27, 2023, after Tesla refused to sign a collective wage agreement. IF Metall launched and has maintained the strike for two years, stating demands remain unchanged and showing no plans to end the action. IF Metall's negotiating secretary Simon Peterson said members remain willing to fight and the union can continue striking. IF Metall holds a strike fund of about 10 billion kronor. Collective agreements cover almost 90 percent of Swedish employees. The strike expanded to additional third-party shops and drew support from nearly a dozen unions and neighbouring countries. The National Mediation Office ended mediation attempts and no negotiations have occurred since.
