Stacey Carter, a multimedia artist, opens her exhibit 'Decommissioned' at the Hunters Point Shipyard Gallery, displaying over two decades of archival research and artifacts. After moving to San Francisco in 1998, she became fascinated by the shipyard's WWII structures and their histories, initially believing her efforts went unnoticed. In 2021, collaboration with journalists spotlighted her work, leading to deeper insights into its past. Through her research, aided by archivist Aaron Seltzer, Carter has become a key figure in uncovering the shipyard's forgotten stories, transforming her passion into a public exhibit.
"Before it was like I'm starving and I don't know how to make money, but I'm staying up all night reading this history that nobody cares about."
"Stacey has an intimidating depth and breadth of knowledge about the shipyard," said Roberts, noting that Carter never failed to find hidden gems about the shipyard in archives or on the internet.
