Toyner caught Teddy G and told officers he'd take care of him. Jones died at a hospital shortly after the shooting, and police arrested 33-year-old suspect Siaosi Aleamotuay later that day."

Carl Jones Jr., a 43-year-old resident of the Henry Hotel on Sixth Street, was shot and killed in the early morning of March 3 in the SoMa neighborhood. Neighbor Charles Toyner witnessed the shooting, heard gunshots, and rescued Jones's small dog Teddy Graham, who ran distressed across the street. Toyner coordinated with others to reunite the dog with one of Jones's siblings. Police arrested 33-year-old Siaosi Aleamotuay, who was charged with murder, firearm use allegations, and being a felon in possession of a firearm. Surveillance footage showed Aleamotuay removing a gun from his backpack and shooting the unarmed Jones. Jones grew up in San Francisco's Fillmore District, overcame significant hardships including parental loss and foster care, and achieved academic excellence with a 4.0 GPA.
