"It was painful. There were definitely moments where I would call them humbling because it makes me question certain things that I even say about myself. Sometimes I think I'm really good or in good shape, and then I face a workout like this, and it makes me realize that there's so much more to go. And so it's eye-opening."
The Treigning Lab, led by head coach Sam Calavitta, serves as a strength and conditioning facility for elite UFC fighters including Khamzat Chimaev and Arman Tsarukyan. Khalil Rountree recently joined the lab to help prepare Chimaev for an upcoming title defense. Rountree describes the training experience as humbling and painful, revealing that despite considering himself fit, the workouts expose significant areas for improvement. These sessions challenge his self-assessment and demonstrate the extensive work required to reach elite levels. Rountree's recent UFC record includes victories over Jamahal Hill and a knockout loss to Jiri Prochazka. Chimaev prepares to defend his middleweight title against Sean Strickland at UFC 328 in May.
