Snap has decided to scrap its plans for a simplified version of its app, opting instead to test a refined five-tab interface after discovering user preference for a more traditional layout. The new design maintains all existing functionalities while enhancing access to Snapchat's Spotlight feature. This decision follows a report of losing 1 million users in North America in Q1 and reflects the company's attempt to bolster engagement and content viewership through familiar navigation. Despite the user decline, Snap reported a revenue increase attributed to subscriptions.
Instead of continuing to test the simplified version, the social network is now going to begin experimenting with a 'refined five-tab interface' that keeps all of the app's existing tabs.
Snap said in its letter to investors that 'Our most engaged Snapchatters consistently demonstrated a preference for a five-tab layout, favoring the familiarity of tile-based content discovery and a dedicated Map tab.'
