"It started out as an album full of death metal songs with speed and aggression. Then Chris had the brilliant idea to keep half of those death metal songs and add some groovier songs in the vein of the early SIX FEET UNDER material."
"I'm writing from the perspective of a killer who toys with a victim and unties them, allowing them to fight. He underestimates their ability to fight, and they get the better of the killer, ultimately impaling and beheading him. The 'Unmistakable Smell of Death' is now that of the killer!"
Six Feet Under announced their new album Next to Die, releasing April 24th through Metal Blade Records, featuring the single 'Unmistakable Smell of Death.' The album balances pure death metal with groove metal influences, combining aggressive speed with groovy elements reminiscent of early Six Feet Under material. Guitarist Jack Owen and vocalist Chris Barnes, both founding Cannibal Corpse members, reunite for this third collaborative record. The new single showcases fast, aggressive tremolo riffs comparable to Cannibal Corpse classics. Lyrically, 'Unmistakable Smell of Death' depicts a killer underestimating their victim's fighting ability, resulting in the killer's beheading. Six Feet Under will tour North America in 2026 with death metal band Kataklysm, starting July 8th in Detroit and concluding August 11th in Chicago.
