On Friday, Immigration and Customs Enforcement removed three U.S. citizen children from the country alongside their mothers, prompting controversy over the Trump administration's deportation policies. Notably, one child, a 4-year-old battling Stage 4 cancer, was sent without necessary medication. Tom Homan, the administration's border czar, claimed that these removals do not constitute deportation since the mothers allegedly chose to take their children back to Honduras. Legal experts argue this practice raises serious questions about the rights of U.S. citizen children affected by such deportations.
"No U.S. citizen child was deported," Homan said. "Deported means ordered by an immigration judge." He insists mothers may have chosen to take their kids with them.
Homan emphasized that having a child in the U.S. is "not a get-out-of-jail-free card" for undocumented immigrants and explained the administration's stance.
