"The completion of the Laurelton accessibility project is a meaningful milestone for Southeast Queens."
"Laurelton is a lifeline for this community, connecting residents to jobs, schools and medical appointments and family across our region. For many people here, public transit is not optional, it's essential to daily life."
"It's great we have a project that was done by MTA workers: it shows they can build things and make things happen and bring it on-time and on-budget."
The Laurelton Long Island Rail Road station underwent a $15 million renovation reaching substantial completion, modernizing an elevated station serving nearly 70,000 monthly riders. The project added a new elevator, a new tunnel for street access, ADA-compliant parking lot and path-of-travel improvements, sidewalks, curb ramps, and retaining walls. Safety and customer amenities were upgraded with new CCTV cameras, station signage, information kiosks, a communication room, and enhanced security systems. The station, opened in 1907, is served by more than 80 weekday trains, and local civic advocacy and MTA construction teams completed the work on schedule and on budget.
