The Peace Corps, under review by DOGE, is said to plan significant' staff cuts.
Briefly

The Peace Corps is considering staff reductions, as communicated by Dan Baker, head of the National Peace Corps Association. This decision, allegedly driven by Elon Musk's cost-cutting team, aims to streamline operations while maintaining volunteer recruitment and safety support. The agency confirmed ongoing efforts for greater efficiency but stated that volunteer numbers and overseas offices will remain unchanged. The Peace Corps currently employs about 970 staff, with many supporting volunteer operations in the U.S. An early retirement option has been offered to employees amidst the planned cuts.
The agency will remain operational and continue to recruit, place, and train volunteers, while supporting their health, safety and security, and effective service.
Mr. Baker said he had been told that the Peace Corps would not close any offices in foreign countries or reduce the numbers of volunteers it takes per year.
The staffing impact is going to be significantly stressful for their operations, Mr. Baker said, recounting the conversation.
To begin the reductions, Mr. Baker said, the agency on Monday offered employees a chance to take early retirement.
