Valerie, a miniature dachshund, went missing on Kangaroo Island during a camping trip in November 2022. After 529 days of roaming the wilderness, she was rescued thanks to a T-shirt with her owner's scent, which helped lure her to safety. Although initial assumptions suggested she might have fallen prey to wildlife, sightings began emerging in March. Volunteers from Kangala Wildlife Rescue organized extensive search efforts, despite some skepticism and criticism regarding the fundraising motives associated with the search operations. Ultimately, Valerie was found healthy and safe, bringing joy to her family and supporters alike.
