They've got 'em,' the man said. He showed Grillo a photo of a zip tied couple, duct tape over the woman's mouth, according to a federal indictment. But the plan had hit a snag, he said. The kidnappers needed another $10,000. Unbeknownst to Grillo as he wrote out the check was that this was all part of an FBI sting.
Local News The black, wire-haired terrier mix survived below-freezing temperatures and nearly two feet of snow after being allegedly dumped in a parking lot. A dog that went missing for six days and amid one of Massachusetts' largest snowstorms in years was safely recovered Tuesday, Needham police said. The department first alerted the public Monday in a Facebook post, asking for help locating the black, wire-haired terrier mix that had allegedly been dumped Thursday in a parking lot off Dwight Road.
A hiker spotted the German shepherd stuck on a steep mountainside above rushing water Monday. She had to retreat for safety and called for help. Thankfully, folks from Animal Advocacy and Iron Paw Rescue responded around 8 p.m. and managed to make it across the water by anchoring themselves with a cable tied to a truck. They got to the dog and kept it calm. The video shows them sitting with the animal and giving it food.
A package thief who stole Christmas gifts in Fontana almost was responsible for the death of Sparky - a bouncy and adorable dog who was hit by a car and lost for two days after the thief failed to close the gate behind him. Now, because of the severity of his injuries, Sparky must have a leg amputated. Luckily, the 2½-year-old Australian blue heeler, or cattle dog, the same breed as Bluey in the eponymous hit TV show, has not lost his signature sparkle.
Darwin knows what cameras look like and how to avoid them. From inside his enclosure, the monkey of Toronto Ikea parking lot fame spots us out of the corner of his eye and bolts under the table. The now 13-year-old Japanese macaque has seen enough of the spotlight to last a lifetime. Darwin was just a baby when he was found in a North York Ikea parking lot in 2012, wearing a diaper and shearling coat, and seized by animal services.
A little dog named Choco has been reunited with his family in Sacramento nearly five years after he disappeared! Choco was found tied to a fence in Detroit, Michigan, more than 2,000 miles from his home. Thankfully he was microchipped. A rescue group flew him home after he was taken to a shelter. Choco's owners had nearly given up hope they'd ever see him again.
A man and his best friend are being reunited in Mexico on Friday, three months after being separated by immigration agents outside a Day Laborer Center about an hour east of Los Angeles. The Inspector General for California's massive prison system says a backlog of investigations into staff misconduct has ballooned to 10,000 cases. The governing body for high school sports in California is changing its bylaws in an effort to protect immigrant student athletes.
The search lasted more than an hour, said Garrett Smerdon and Jack Alldredge, San Diego Fire Deparment lifeguards credited with the rescue. They felt that given black labs' ability to swim and Sadie's age - 5 years old - she was likely still alive and swimming, or paddling. "After an extensive search with no sightings, lifeguards began making their way back in-until a miracle happened," the fire department wrote. A rescue Jet Ski had spotted Sadie a half mile offshore near South Mission Beach.
A Scituate police officer borrowed a kayak to rescue a golden retriever who'd swum too far out into the ocean on Sunday. Scituate police received a report of a dog failing to respond to calls to swim to shore at Peggotty Beach around 9 a.m. on Sunday. The dog swam 100 yards from the shore, further than its usual swim, and bit onto a buoy mooring, seemingly wanting to bring it back to shore, police say.
Six-year-old Dachshund, Tosca, went on adventure in Hackney and disappeared down a fox hole. Thankfully, Homerton crews and Bethnal Green's Fire Rescue Unit came to the rescue and arrived with their specialist equipment, including a snake-eye camera that they used to locate the runaway pup. Tosca was found about three feet below ground level, stuck in a tunnel. After some careful digging, firefighters freed Tosca and safely reunited them with their owners.
The Cambridge Fire Department rescued a small dog that reportedly got stuck in an escalator on Saturday. Warren Ellis credits his ability to sink his teeth into an idea as the secret of his decades-long creative partnership with Nick Cave - though Cave likes to joke it's because he was "fun to take drugs with". It's a stubborn trait the musician shares with Femke den Haas, an animal rights campaigner based in Sumatra who runs a rescue centre for abused and trafficked animals.
Considering he was about 3,300 miles into his cross-country ride, had been in the saddle for three months and was deeply fatigued, no one would blame him for not immediately identifying the mysterious and tiny thing he spied on a wicked hot late July morning while riding on a rural road outside of Council, Virginia. Perhaps he was imagining it.
