Kitten rescued from locked bag thrown over fence
"This is an appalling way to treat a living animal."
"This kitten must have been terrified - trapped inside a bag and flung over a fence near a busy station. If she hadn't been found in time the outcome could have been tragic."
"Abandoning animals is never the answer - no matter how difficult things are,"
"We understand the cost of living crisis is affecting many, and we offer help and advice to struggling pet owners."
A 12-week-old kitten was found near Clapham Junction station after being thrown over a barbed-wire fence inside a zipped rucksack. A passer-by discovered the distinctive white bubble-style bag and rescued the animal. The kitten has been named Mavis and is now under RSPCA care. A police-led investigation is checking CCTV and seeking witnesses. Mavis is not microchipped. RSPCA urges neutering and microchipping, noting female cats can become pregnant from four months old and potentially produce up to 18 kittens per year. RSPCA rescues over 20,000 cats annually, with peak intake from May to September, and offers support to struggling pet owners affected by the cost-of-living crisis.
