One in ten businesses lose staff over office return demands, BCC finds
Briefly

Nine percent of UK businesses have lost employees in the last year due to mandatory office returns, according to new research from the British Chambers of Commerce. Nearly half of surveyed firms expect staff to return to full-time office work. The survey revealed a divide on flexible working, as rising employment costs prompt companies to focus on productivity. Many employers, especially in manufacturing and customer-facing sectors, believe remote work reduces productivity and have questioned the effectiveness of fully remote roles. Hybrid arrangements are still popular among some businesses, balancing employee autonomy with operational needs.
In some cases, firms are saying we need to bring people back to the office to reach the levels we want to achieve.
We’re seeing a clear shift towards more firms requiring full onsite working, but it’s by no means a uniform picture.
