"I'm not running to be more of the same. I'm not running to be a centrist Democrat who doesn't make any changes. I want to solve the big problems. I want to create big impact."
"It gives me a lot of background in: How do you negotiate complex systems? How do you solve problems when you have multiple competing stakeholders that all want different things?"
Lena Chipman, a Memphis-area tech consultant with a background in mutual aid and LGBTQ+ advocacy, is campaigning for a seat on the Shelby County Board of Commissioners representing District 13 in East Memphis. If elected, she would become the first out person to hold public office in western Tennessee. Chipman's campaign emphasizes community well-being and opposing state and federal policies she views as harmful. She brings experience from her corporate career as a senior executive at a Fortune 500 company, where she developed skills in navigating complex systems and managing competing stakeholders. Additionally, Chipman has been involved in mutual aid efforts for decades and expanded her advocacy work after coming out as transgender four years ago.
