The San Jose Barracuda triumphed over the Ontario Reign in their opening playoff series, winning 2-1 in Game 2 thanks to a late goal from Collin Graf. Goalie Yaroslav Askarov's stellar performance, including 29 saves, was pivotal to the Barracuda's success. Despite facing adversity with injuries during the match, the team's determination and cohesion led them to victory. They now prepare to face the top-seeded Colorado Eagles in the second round, having previously struggled against them in the regular season with a 3-5-0 record.
"I'm happy for our group. That's a lively locker room in there. They should be really proud of themselves," Barracuda coach John McCarthy said after Saturday's game.
"Askarov was great, I thought he won the game for us," McCarthy said.
"It was gritty for us because we went down a couple of guys there, a forward and a D," Graf said.
San Jose went 3-5-0 in its season series against Colorado this season.
