Logan Couture, captain of the San Jose Sharks, announced his retirement from professional hockey after 16 seasons, primarily due to ongoing injury issues. He played a mere six games during the 2023-24 season and was unable to participate in the 2024-25 campaign. Couture thanked the Sharks organization and fans for their support throughout his career, which included 323 goals and 701 points in regular-season play, along with significant contributions in the playoffs. He was key in leading the Sharks to their first Stanley Cup Final appearance in 2015.
"Unfortunately, due to my injury, I am no longer able to play hockey," Couture said. "I'm extremely grateful and proud to have played 16 years in the best league in the world."
Couture finishes his career with 323 goals and 701 points in 933 regular-season games, and 48 goals and 101 points in 116 postseason games.
Couture helped the Sharks reach the Western Conference finals in 2019, losing to the eventual Stanley Cup champion St. Louis Blues in six games.
Couture was part of an experienced group of players that was going to help the franchise usher in a new era.
