X Adds Paid Partnership Labels for Sponsored Posts
"While we want to encourage people to build their businesses on X, undisclosed promotions hurt the integrity of the product and lead people to distrust the content they read on X. This new feature will allow you to comply with regulations, but more importantly: it enables you to be transparent with your followers."
"To add the Paid Partnership label before posting, tap the flag icon under the text field and enable it. If you need to add the label after posting, tap the three-dot menu next to your username on the post, then select Add content disclosure."
"Branded content from several industries is ineligible for Paid Partnership labels on X. That includes dating & marriage services, alcohol, sexual products, drugs, political or social issues, health and wellness products, weight-loss products, medicines, tobacco, and weapons."
X has launched Paid Partnership labels to help creators transparently disclose sponsored content, replacing informal hashtags like #Ad or #Sponsored. The feature addresses FTC requirements for disclosing material connections to brands while maintaining platform integrity and user trust. Users can add the label before posting via a flag icon or after posting through the three-dot menu. Certain industries including dating services, alcohol, drugs, political content, health products, and weapons are ineligible for the label, though exceptions may be granted case-by-case. This feature brings X in line with Meta's platforms, which have offered similar functionality since 2017.
