SF tech CEO promises layoffs aren't annual as he cuts another 1,000
"Spokesperson Renée Francis told SFGATE about 10% of the layoffs will hit San Francisco workers. The AutoCAD-maker's layoff follows a 1,350-worker cut last February and is similarly meant to overhaul the company's go-to-market organization, which includes sales and marketing. CEO Andrew Anagnost, in his letter, called this layoff the "final phase of that journey" and promised that the drastic cuts wouldn't continue."
""I recognize the weight of this news, particularly as it follows the organizational changes we made last year," Anagnost wrote. "I want to be clear that this will not become an annual process at Autodesk and these changes are not driven by the external environment or an effort to replace people with AI." The CEO said that the company would reinvest money in its AI, platform and industry cloud efforts, as well as in its corporate roles."
Autodesk is laying off around 1,000 workers, about 7% of its workforce, following a 1,350-worker reduction last February. Approximately 10% of the layoffs will affect San Francisco employees. The cuts target the go-to-market organization, including sales and marketing. The CEO described the reduction as the "final phase of that journey" and pledged the cuts will not become an annual process or be driven by AI. The company plans to reinvest funds into AI, platform and industry cloud initiatives and corporate roles. Laid-off workers will be offered severance and continued benefits, with expected termination costs of $135 million to $160 million. The company expects to exceed prior revenue and free-cash-flow estimates for the current quarter.
