HBO's live-action adaptation of The Last of Us is currently expected to cover at least three seasons. The second season has been completed, covering half of The Last of Us Part II's story. Showrunner Craig Mazin's future plans for the series are uncertain. HBO development plans may change due to a recent creative shift, with original writers Neil Druckmann and Halley Gross stepping back. CEO Casey Bloys confirmed that the third season is scheduled for 2027, but the exact number of total seasons remains undecided.
The series is definitely planned for 2027. Craig is still working it out whether it will be two more seasons or one more long season. It hasn't been decided yet, and I'm following Craig's lead on that.
It’s entirely possible plans have changed after the creative shakeup, but Neil Druckmann gave the team a good blueprint for the rest of the show, even if he's not working on it himself.
