On May 18, 2025, a speeding impaired driver in a Dodge Caravan lost control exiting Highway 401 in Etobicoke, crossed a median, and collided with a stopped Chrysler Pacifica minivan carrying a family returning from Victoria Day fireworks. Three children—Ramone (15), Jace (13), and Mya Lavina-Galve (6)—died in the crash. The mother, Jade Galve, survived along with her partner and another son. Ethan Lehouillier, 20, pleaded guilty to three counts of impaired driving causing death and three counts of impaired driving causing bodily harm. During sentencing proceedings, Galve delivered a tearful victim impact statement describing her deceased children's positive qualities and expressing the family's loss.
