This colorful German airline is a great way to fly from SFO to Europe
"Take Condor, a lesser-known German airline that's been flying to SFO since 2022. If its name isn't familiar, you're likely to remember seeing one of its aircraft parked at an airport gate. Bold stripes in either red, green, beige, yellow or blue encircle the white fuselage in a striking livery that's like nothing else in the sky. The design scheme is supposed to evoke beach towels and chairs and signify vacation."
"But even in September at the tail end of the summer rush, a round-trip business class ticket from SFO to Madrid via Frankfurt was also far less expensive (about $4,000) than on the other carriers we checked (from $7,500 to $9,000). A lie-flat seat at that price was tempting enough, but add in that we could accrue (and redeem) Alaska Airlines Atmos points, and we were sold."
Bay Area travelers have access to 16 airlines flying from SFO to 15 European destinations including Istanbul, Dublin and the Azores. Condor, a German carrier that began SFO service in 2022, features a distinctive striped livery meant to evoke beach towels and vacation imagery. Condor offers highly competitive fares, with economy tickets sometimes around $500 and round-trip business class from SFO to Madrid via Frankfurt about $4,000 compared with $7,500–$9,000 on other carriers. Condor is not in a major global alliance but partners with Alaska Airlines, JetBlue and Emirates frequent-flyer programs. Short-haul operations have included routes such as Munich to Crete with informal service moments.
