Tigers' Skubal avoids injury, to make next start
"There are some aches and pains that come and go when you're out there playing. This one was new to me,"
"And that's kind of what made my decision for me."
Tarik Skubal left Friday night's 8-2 loss to the Miami Marlins because of tightness in his left side. Manager A.J. Hinch said imaging tests came back negative. Skubal threw 45 pitches in 3⅓ innings, allowing four hits and four earned runs, walking none and striking out two. He allowed a fourth-inning leadoff single to Heriberto Hernandez and then retired Eric Wagaman on a flyout to center before exiting. Skubal described the discomfort as a new ache that influenced his decision to leave the game. Skubal remains among the majors' top pitchers by fWAR.
