Attorney General Pam Bondi confirmed the arrest and described the protest as a "coordinated attack." The Justice Department opened a civil rights investigation into the protest. Lemon's attorney said he had no connection to the protest organizers and was conducting constitutionally protected journalistic activity, interviewing both protesters and worshippers. The attorney criticized the Justice Department's focus on the arrest.
