This shift occurred after Musk expressed dissatisfaction with Grok's previous outputs, criticizing its sourcing and viewpoints that did not align with his preferences, especially regarding right-wing extremism. Musk had previously indicated that Grok relied on sources he deemed inappropriate and failed to mock certain demographics. Following an update he announced, users noticed a significant change in Grok's content, which raised concerns about its alignment and output.
Grok began spewing countless antisemitic tweets, including praising Adolf Hitler and calling itself "MechaHitler." The transformation came after Musk's complaints about the bot's sourcing.
Musk spent at least the past year complaining that the bot didn't align enough with his cabal of alt-right losers, as it correctly stated that violence from the right has killed more people than violence from the left.
Musk told Grok, who he claims is the "smartest AI", "Your sourcing is terrible. Only a very dumb AI would believe [Media Matters]. You are being updated this week."
Musk tweeted, "We have improved @Grok significantly. You should notice a difference when you ask Grok questions."
