The Board of Immigration Appeals ordered journalist Mario Guevara deported to El Salvador, the country he fled over two decades ago after persecution tied to his reporting. Three judges who issued the order were appointed by former Attorney General Pam Bondi. Guevara's attorneys secured an emergency hearing in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Georgia, and the court requested further briefing without issuing a decision, leaving Guevara at risk of deportation. Supporters and Georgia lawmakers assert the deportation is retaliation for his reporting on immigration raids. The ACLU and ACLU of Georgia represent Guevara and call for his immediate release.
