"The rebranding is really just confirming what we already knew--in February this year, EA announced that Criterion was being moved under the Battlefield Studios banner in order to support the single-player experience for Battlefield 6. Criterion, the Burnout creator and long-time Need for Speed custodian, now carries the official subtitle "A Battlefield Studio" on EA's website. EA moved Criterion under the Battlefield Studios banner in February to support single-player development for Battlefield 6. Development on the next Need for Speed title has been paused, though EA has stated the franchise is not dead. Criterion led Need for Speed since 2010 and released Need for Speed Unbound in 2022. After EA restructuring, a majority of Criterion staff have been reassigned to support Battlefield, making future Criterion-led Need for Speed projects unclear.
